Phil Salt was just a local league batsman and Sussex worked with him and now he is an international so how does he repay them? Buggers off to Lancashire.

I do look at likes of Topley, Foakes and Mills who left for bigger things and all won grand total of zero trophies whilst Essex won loads.
Something nice when so called small counties beat the big boys.

Problem is, cricketers don't earn huge money unless you are one of the top, top players. The average players don't earn enough to allow them to show honour and repay faith shown. If they get a chance to up their salary they are off as they have to take it when they can.

Mercenary = supporting a family and providing a future
The average first-class career is between 10-15 years, If a bigger and better employer offered you more money wouldn't you take it?
Unfortunately (and fortunately) we don't live in the sixties anymore. Sport is professional, hard, and only offers a finite life span.

The trouble is when teams like Surrey and Lancashire don’t make a final they just get the cheque books out and buy a counties top talent.
The ECB fund it so they know what they are doing, they want less counties.
I intend to enjoy the T20 finals day because I can’t see Sussex being in it for a very long time.

My county, Kent, has always developed talent similarly to Sussex
Cricket going down the football route, sad and such a shame
That's why I love it when counties like Sussex and Somerset stick it to the bigger counties
